The medium of the "Plant Performative Drawings" are freshly harvested from yards, front or back, urban, suburban, rural, agriculture, small human scale is my preference, to be in touch with the plants, we say gardens when it is human scale, I think, or neighborhood wild and cultivated plants . The plant materials then , that continue to live in and on the paper, staining or fading so far over the years that they exist. Living plant matter or color stabilizes into stains of ink like and faded colors, lines and textures. The use of pencil or charcoal is sometimes used with plants that are known to fade and to trace the uniqueness, which is expressed from the plants chemistry and biology and over time from the reaction to air, oxygen and micro-organism, oxidizing or decomposing on the paper, which becomes visible as the colors change, stain or fade.

Nicole McDonald-Fournier's innovative method, process and concept:
"Edible Vegetation Transformation Drawing" is the title of the series and drawings that are the outcome of the performance and concept I call "Harvest-Draw-Cook-Nourish" ("Récolter-dessiner-cuisiner-nourrir" in french) (begun in 2011), which is a performance and a concept in itself that results in "Plant Performative Drawings".

The concept behind the drawings and the performance involves the validation of our connection to Nature through harvesting, (picking ripe fresh plants) from Nature, to the transformation done in the home, studio, gallery or other venue. It is the validation of the microbiotic activity inside and outside, to taking living nutricious matter, in it’s naturally transforming state with bare hands, touching, applying the plants to the paper as a nutritious performative process. It is a process of transformation that I conceptual liken to cooking, raw food cooking without heat, but through mechanical transformation as cooking, and eating a meal, but through absorption of nutrients through the action of drawing with nutritious plants.
The image that result and becomes the "Plant Performative Drawing" is the abstract organic expression that comes out of the circular motion I improvise, following the way the leaf, seed, flower, vegetable makes it marks, squishes, squirts, breaks apart in each unique way, between it’s energy and mine as I press and move the plant matter between my skin and the paper.
